Port Hope blows out Napanee, 6-1

Strathcona Paper    Tue, Dec 08, 2015

The Port Hope Panthers were firing on all cylinders against the Napanee Raiders, and when the final buzzer sounded Panthers emerged with a 6-1 win.

Dalton Lawrence was all over the ice for Port Hope, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Lawrence scored short handed 12:24 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Port Hope. The Panthers were on a disadvantage when Mike Smith went off the ice for tripping. Dan Lagrois picked up the assist.

Port Hope's Aaron Young was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 32 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Young will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.58.

The Panthers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Napanee power plays. Napanee was unable to stop Port Hope from sending pucks towards the net, and the Panthers eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Port Hope also got points from Josh Geruais, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Lagrois, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. Port Hope also had goals scored by Andrew Gurr and Blane Gaudon, who each put in one. In addition, Port Hope received assists from Jon Campbell, Shawn Mackie, Evan Wasylyk, and Matthew Cavanaugh, who contributed one each.

The Raiders stifled Port Hope's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Napanee was held below its usual level of production. The Raiders average 4.3 goals per game. Napanee's offense rang up 33 shots on the Panthers' net.

The Raiders were led by Trent Schutt, who scored the team's only goal. Schutt scored 10:10 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Port Hope. Aidan McFarland provided the assist.

Port Hope incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Cameron Parr made 25 saves for Napanee on 31 shots. The Raiders incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
