Picton pulls away in second, rolls over Campbellford, 7-2Campbellford-Seymour CC Sat, Dec 05, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Campbellford Rebels was within striking distance after one period, but the Picton Pirates put the pedal down in the second en route to a 7-2 victory. Mitch Thompson had one goal and two assists to lead Picton. Thompson scored 2:52 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Picton. Mitch Burke picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:56 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Pirates forced Rebels' goalies to work without much rest, launching 51 shots and forcing 44 saves. Tyler Freemen made 20 stops and Stark Travis AP made 24. Picton's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Campbellford power plays. The Pirates found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Picton has scored at the pace of 2.3 goals per game during the current campaign. The defensemen of the Pirates were also effective in Campbellford's zone, and came away with two goals. Picton additionally got points from James Pero, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Nate Kellar, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Burke, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. TJ Patterson also scored for Picton. In addition, Picton received assists from Devin McCann, Trey Maracle, Gerald Bilker, and Nolan Van Vlack, who contributed one each. Picton was unable to stop the Rebels from sending pucks towards the net, and Campbellford eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. The Rebels were led by Jackob Bennett, who registered one goal. Bennett scored 13:57 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Picton. Austin Fry assisted on the tally. Campbellford also got a goal from Alex Buchanan as well. Other players who recorded assists for Campbellford were Dawson Ellis APM and Travis Bennett, who each chipped in one. The Pirates' Charles Grimard stopped 38 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Picton totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. For the Pirates, Burke was ejected from the game. Campbellford ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. The Rebels ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Josh Hodge was ejected from the game.
