Port Hope beats Amherstview 8-2 as Lagrois gets hat trick

Dan Lagrois netted a hat trick to lead the Port Hope Panthers over the Amherstview Jets, 8-2.

Lagrois' first goal came 8:53 into the first period. He then added goals at 5:12 into the second and at 14:27 into the second.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:14 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Port Hope forced Amherstview's goaltenders to work in net, taking 40 shots and forcing 32 saves. Adam Redgate made 23 stops and Ryan Kaszuba made nine. The Panthers stifled the Jets' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Port Hope bested its season scoring average. This season, the Panthers average 5.3 goals per contest.

Port Hope also got points from Dalton Lawrence, who also registered two goals and one assist and Evan Foley, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Evan Wasylyk also scored for Port Hope. In addition, Port Hope received assists from Jon Campbell, who had two, Cameron McGill, who had four, and Matthew Hunt, Blane Gaudon, Shawn Mackie, and Keegan Ferguson, who each chipped in one.

Amherstview did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Jets put an average of 5.4 pucks into the net per game.

Amherstview was helped by Adam Kim, who finished with one goal. Kim scored 8:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Amherstview. Cody Jodoin provided the assist. Amherstview additionally got points from Jodoin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Amherstview came via Jordan Howe, who had one.

Sheldon Calbury made 21 saves for Port Hope on 23 shots. The Panthers totaled 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Port Hope ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mackie was ejected from the game. The Jets totaled 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-5 on the power play. For Amherstview, Zach Kish and Zach Maciel were ejected from the contest.
