Port Hope blows out Napanee, 6-2Strathcona Paper Tue, Nov 10, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Port Hope Panthers were firing on all cylinders against the Napanee Raiders, and when the final buzzer sounded Panthers emerged with a 6-2 win. Port Hope got the win on the strength of a great game by Evan Foley, who had two goals and two assists. Foley scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:38 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Panthers had gained a power play chance when Michael Parr was whistled for boarding. Dalton Lawrence picked up the assist. Foley's next tally on the power play made the score 6-2 Port Hope with 2:20 left in the third period. Lawrence provided the assist. Port Hope's penalty kill excelled, as the Panthers gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays. Port Hope's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game the Panthers had been spending in the box. Port Hope stifled Napanee's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Others who scored for Port Hope included Andrew Gurr, Cameron McGill, Hunter Baker, and Shawn Mackie, who scored one goal each. In addition, Port Hope received assists from Mike Smith, who had two and Matthew Hunt and Dan Lagrois, who contributed one each. The Raiders were held below their usual level of production. Napanee puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. The Raiders forced the Panthers goalie Aaron Young to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. Napanee's penalty kill unit could not stop Port Hope's power play, which converted on three of five opportunities. The Raiders were led by Zach Knapp-Hermer, who tallied one goal. Knapp-Hermer scored 3:11 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Napanee. Jordan Cannons picked up the assist. Zack Revell also scored for Napanee. More assists for Napanee came via Austin Boulard and Will Peirson, who each chipped in one. The Panthers' Young stopped 31 shots out of the 33 that he faced. For Port Hope, Smith was ejected from the game. Napanee's starting goalie, Cameron Parr, made 11 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Tomo Mikuljan, who stopped 12 shots. The Raiders incurred 44 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
