Gananoque uses big second period to beat Picton, 10-0Gananoque Recreation Centre Sun, Oct 25, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Picton Pirates allowed the Gananoque Islanders to net four goals during the second period and fell, 10-0. Quinn Cota spearheaded the defensive effort for Gananoque, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 31 saves for the shutout. The solid play of Cota will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.68. Phil Smith had a great game for the Islanders, netting two goals. Smith scored short handed at 6:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Gananoque and again while 10:44 into the third to make the score 10-0 Gananoque. Gananoque forced Pirates' goalies to work between the pipes, launching 44 shots and forcing 34 saves. Dustin Myskiw made 16 stops and Brock Tufts made 18. The Islanders' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Picton power plays. Gananoque bested its season scoring average. The Islanders average 4.5 goals per game. Gananoque additionally got points from Sam Wilson, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Jakob Erwin, who also had one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Gananoque included Drew Marquette and Brody Cross, who each put in two and Cole Serson and Connor Smith, who scored one goal each. In addition, Gananoque received assists from Hunter Drew, who had three, Mike Minns, Tyson OToole, and Brenden Lochead, who each chipped in one, and Nic Stafford, David Leung, and Nick Kirkby, who contributed two each. Picton's offense rang up 31 shots on Gananoque's net. The Islanders incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Pirates incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
