Early goals doom Picton, falls to Gananoque, 6-3

A four-goal first period deficit cost the Picton Pirates, which could not recover and fell to the Gananoque Islanders, 6-3.

Matt Carter had two goals and one assist to lead Gananoque. Carter scored the first of his two goals at 9:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Gananoque. Nick Kirkby assisted on the tally. Carter's next tally made the score 2-0 Gananoque with 8:07 left in the first period. Phil Smith picked up the assist.

The Islanders managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Gananoque ended up below its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game.

Gananoque additionally got points from Smith, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Gananoque included Sam Wilson and Nick Maillet, who each put in one. In addition, Gananoque received assists from Nic Stafford, Hunter Drew, Cole Serson, Drew Marquette, and Tyson OToole, who each chipped in one.

Picton managed to stay out of the box better than usual, tallying one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Pirates wound up below its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game.

Picton was led by Nolan Van Vlack, who racked up one goal and one assist. Van Vlack scored 8:20 into the third period to make the score 5-2 Gananoque. Gavin Ronan assisted on the tally. Picton also had goals scored by Tristan Nugent and Tim Morton (APM), who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Picton were Nate Kellar and Gerald Bilker, who contributed one each.

John Gilmer rejected 27 shots on goal for the Islanders. Gananoque registered one goal on one power play opportunities. The Pirates' starting goalie, Dustin Myskiw, made 20 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Brock Tufts, who stopped four shots. Picton registered zero goals on one power play opportunities.
