Amherstview wins tough contest against Gananoque, 5-3WJ Henderson Rec. Centre Sun, Oct 18, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Amherstview Jets escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Gananoque Islanders. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Cody Smith secured the win for Amherstview with a goal in the third period. In the losing effort, Gananoque was led by Brody Cross, who racked up two goals and one assist. Cross scored the first of his two goals at 10:23 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Mike Minns assisted on the tally. Cross' next tally made the score 2-2 with 11:55 left in the third period. A high sticking penalty on Brett Maracle had put the Islanders on the power play. Brenden Lochead picked up the assist. In the losing effort, Gananoque was sparked by Cross, who had two goals and one assist. The Jets kept the Islanders' goalie busy throughout the game, and John Gilmer made 40 saves on 45 shots. Amherstview was led by Cody Jodoin, who registered one goal and one assist. Jodoin scored on the power play 16:19 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Amherstview. The Jets had taken the advantage when Gananoque's Chase Hawley got sent off for roughing after whistle. Adam Alcorn provided the assist. Amherstview also got points from Brett Yake, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Zach Maciel, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Amherstview also got a goal from Dorian Overland as well. More assists for Amherstview came via Jordan Howe, who had two and Wyatt Crampton and Joey Mayer, who contributed one each. The Islanders forced Amherstview goalie Adam Redgate to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Connor Smith also scored for Gananoque. In addition, Gananoque received assists from Nic Stafford, Hunter Drew, and Tyson OToole, who each chipped in one. Redgate rejected 29 shots on goal for the Jets. Amherstview incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Gananoque incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
