Gananoque falls to Napanee after surprising comebackGananoque Recreation Centre Sun, Sep 20, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Napanee Raiders climbed out of a three-goal hole to beat the Gananoque Islanders, 6-5. Napanee never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Raiders trailed 5-2 after a goal by Gananoque's Drew Marquette at 4:44 in the third period. Napanee knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Ryan Gibson at 13:49 in the third period. The Raiders netted the game winner at 17:02 in the third period on a goal by Gibson. Aidan McFarland had two goals and two assists to lead Napanee. McFarland scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:41 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Gananoque. The Raiders had gained a power play chance when Tyson OToole was whistled for slashing. Riley Steeves picked up the assist. McFarland's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Gananoque with 7:06 left in the third period. Steeves provided the assist. Napanee's offense rang up 51 shots on the Islanders' net. The Raiders' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to Gananoque's power play unit. Napanee also got points from Steeves, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Gibson, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Austin Boulard, who also registered one goal and two assists. Logan Drew also scored for Napanee. In addition, Napanee received assists from Cullen Hinds, who had two and Kyle Murphy, Jordan Cannons, and Nicolas Schuler, who each chipped in one. The Islanders could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game. Gananoque was led by Brenden Lochead, who tallied two goals and two assists. Lochead scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:42 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Gananoque. The Islanders had gotten the advantage when Napanee's Zach Knapp-Hermer was sent off for slashing. Nic Stafford assisted on the tally. Lochead's next tally on the power play made the score 4-1 Gananoque with 8:15 left in the second period. Connor Smith picked up the assist. Gananoque additionally got points from Marquette, who also had two goals and one assist. Gananoque also got a goal from Phil Smith as well. More assists for Gananoque came via Chance MacDonald, who had two. Tomo Mikuljan made 21 saves for the Raiders on 26 shots. Napanee incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Quinn Cota rejected 45 shots on goal for Gananoque.
