Appleby College falls to St. Andrews College after surprising comeback

The St. Andrews College Saints rallied from two goals down to secure a 6-5 win over the Appleby College Blue Dogs.

St. Andrews College never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Saints fell behind 3-1 after a goal by Appleby College's Callum Jones at 13:01 in the first period. St. Andrews College tied things up at 5-5 on a goal by Alex MacDonald at 9:34 in the third period. The Saints scored the game winner at 17:53 in the third period on a goal by MacDonald.

Morgan Barron was all over the ice for St. Andrews College, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Barron scored the first of his two goals at 9:29 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Appleby College. Mitchell Martan assisted on the tally. Barron's next tally made the score 6-5 St. Andrews College with 2:07 left in the third period. Martan picked up the assist.

The Saints stifled the Blue Dogs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. St. Andrews College forced Appleby College goalie Nicolas Solari to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

St. Andrews College also got points from Otto Saarimaa, who also grabbed two goals and one assist and MacDonald, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Reid Yochim also scored for St. Andrews College. In addition, St. Andrews College received assists from Jacob Miller, who had one.

The Blue Dogs found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Appleby College has scored at the pace of 2.6 goals per game during the current campaign.

Appleby College additionally got points from Jacob Gower, who also registered one goal and one assist. Appleby College also got a goal from Sammy English as well. More assists for Appleby College came via Blake Mueller, Adam Scholz, Steve Jang, Phil Mazzuca, Patrick Vulgan, and Michael Rubin, who contributed one each.

Cole Chapman recorded 16 saves for the Saints. St. Andrews College incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Blue Dogs' Solari stopped 28 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Appleby College incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
