Smith nets hat trick, leads Stoney Creek to 10-2 win over Hamilton

A hat trick by Matt Smith was the highlight in Generals' 10-2 win against the Hamilton Steelhawks.

Smith's first goal came 14:38 into the first period. He then added goals at 17:18 into the second and at 10:00 into the third.

The Stoney Creek Generals gained an early advantage, leading 5-0 by the end of the first period.

Stoney Creek forced Hamilton's netminders to work all game long, taking 52 shots and forcing 42 saves. Tim Rogers made 35 stops and Ben Goss made seven. The Generals bested their season scoring average. Stoney Creek averages 7.0 goals per game. The Generals capitalized on the Steelhawks' penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage.

Stoney Creek also got points from Kyle Frieday, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, Jarrett Konkle, who also had one goal and one assist, Nathan Pageau, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Jordan Morrison, who also registered one goal and three assists, and Justin Donati, who also tallied one goal and three assists. Stoney Creek also got a goal from Andrew Radjenovic as well. In addition, Stoney Creek received assists from Sean Blanchard, who had two and Dylan Quaile, Ryan Healy, Mike Ruberto, Jeff Leaist, and Jeremy Bloomfield, who contributed one each.

Hamilton forced Stoney Creek goalie Matthew Sagrott to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Sagrott rejected 29 shots on goal for the Generals. Stoney Creek ended with seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major. For the Generals, Nikola Bibic was ejected from the game. The Steelhawks incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
