Hamilton shrugs off penalties, upends Dundas, 5-2Mountain Arena Sat, Feb 06, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Hamilton Steelhawks' penalty kill was superb, as Hamilton survived multiple penalties to beat the Dundas Real McCoys, 5-2. The Steelhawks were sparked by Steven Mueller, who grabbed one goal. Mueller scored 3:09 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Hamilton. Stuart Isnor assisted on the tally. In the losing effort, Dundas was led by Simon Mangos, who had two goals. Mangos scored the first of his two goals at 15:50 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hamilton. Shawn Snider picked up the assist. Mangos' next tally made the score 4-2 Hamilton with 1:46 left in the third period. Jeff White assisted on the tally. Hamilton's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Dundas power plays. The Real McCoys were unable to stop the Steelhawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Hamilton eventually piled up 46 shots on goal. Hamilton also got points from Gary Clarke, who also finished with two goals and one assist and Steve Guzzo, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Hamilton were Colby Spooner, who had one and Mitch McCrank, who had two. Dundas stifled the Steelhawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Real McCoys' offense rang up 40 shots on Hamilton's net. Dundas' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. In addition, Dundas received assists from Brad Bonello and Scott Stafford, who contributed one each. Ben Goss made 38 saves for the Steelhawks on 40 shots. Hamilton incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Real McCoys' Mike Mole stopped 41 shots out of the 46 that he faced. Dundas ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. The Real McCoys ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jake Laplante was ejected from the game.
