Thorold falls to Stoney Creek after surprising comeback

Undaunted by a three-goal deficit, the Stoney Creek Generals battled back to claim a 6-5 victory over the Thorold Athletics.

Stoney Creek never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Generals trailed 4-1 after a goal by Thorold's Derek Nichols at 4:37 in the second period. Stoney Creek knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Andrew Radjenovic at 11:30 in the second period. The Generals got the game winner at 12:30 in the second period on a goal by Radjenovic.

Nathan Pageau was all over the ice for Stoney Creek, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win.

The Generals stifled the Athletics' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Stoney Creek's offense rang up 53 shots on Thorold's net. The Generals could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Stoney Creek also got points from Dylan Quaile, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Matt Smith, who also had one goal and four assists to lead the team in points, and Ryan O Marra, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Stoney Creek received assists from Jarrett Konkle, who had one and Tyler Donati, who had two.

The Athletics put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Stoney Creek to score on any of its four power plays.

Thorold also had goals scored by Mark Locher, Tommy Barcz, and Ben MacAskill, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Jay Hill, who had two, Ryan Cirillo, who had three, and Tony Geldart, Chris Risi, and Rallis Yanni, who each chipped in one.

Daniel Svedin made 17 saves for the Generals on 22 shots. Thorold's Colin Dunne stopped 47 shots out of the 53 that he faced. The Athletics incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
