Ventura nets hat trick, leads Whitby to 7-2 win over Hamilton

Kyle Ventura netted a hat trick to lead the Whitby Dunlops over the Hamilton Steelhawks, 7-2.

Ventura got on the scoresheet 3:35 into the first period. He then added goals at 17:36 into the second and at 16:22 into the third.

Whitby put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Hamilton to score on any of its four power plays. The Dunlops' offense rang up 34 shots on the Steelhawks' net. Whitby got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Whitby additionally got points from Adam Maccarone, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Whitby included Mike Pain, Connor Shingler, and Shane Terry, who each put in one. More assists for Whitby came via Scott Freeman, Matthew Baxter, and Ben Parker, who each chipped in one and Darren Doherty and Jason Dale, who contributed two each.

Hamilton kept the Dunlops' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jason Guy made 34 saves on 36 shots.

The Steelhawks were helped by Kyle McQuade, who grabbed one goal. McQuade scored 2:53 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Whitby. Kevin Rebelo provided the assist. Hamilton also got a goal from Colin Isnor as well.

Whitby incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Hamilton's Ben Goss stopped 27 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Steelhawks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
