Brantford downs Thorold in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Brantford Blast's Dustin Alcock scored 1:47 into overtime to beat the Thorold Athletics, 5-4 (OT).

Alcock had a great game for Brantford, netting two goals.

The Blast's offense rang up 31 shots on Thorold's net. Penalties took their toll on Brantford, as its penalty kill unit let in three power play goals. The Blast could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 48 minutes in penalties during the game.

Brantford additionally got points from Dave Russell, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Brantford also had goals scored by Brandon Dietrich and Jamie Williams, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Brantford were Ryan McCarthy, who had one, Cameron Sault, who had three, and Derek Medeiros and Jeff Caister, who contributed two each.

The Athletics forced Brantford goalie Anthony Marshall to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Thorold was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 46 penalty minutes.

The Athletics were helped by JJ Martin, who had two goals. Martin scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 17:07 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Thorold had taken the advantage when the Blast's Russell got sent off for high sticking. Reid Lesswing assisted on the tally. Martin's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Thorold with 15:23 left in the third period. The Athletics earned a power play opportunity when Joel Prpic was put in the box for roughing. Steven Dol picked up the assist. Thorold also got points from Dol, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Steve Zmudcynski, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Thorold received assists from Chris Risi, Jay Hill, Fraser Smith, Tyler Turcotte, and John Falzoi, who each chipped in one.

Brantford's Marshall stopped 37 shots out of the 41 that he faced. The Blast registered two goals on 11 power play opportunities. For Brantford, Prpic was ejected from the game. Colin Dunne rejected 26 shots on goal for Thorold.
