Hamilton falls to Thorold in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Thorold Athletics pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Hamilton Steelhawks on a clutch goal by Steve Zmudcynski.

Thorold almost relinquished a three-score lead. The Athletics made the score 4-1 on a goal by Zmudcynski at 10:14 in the second period. Hamilton pulled to within 4-3 on a goal by Gary Clarke at 11:20 in the third period.

Zmudcynski had two goals to lead Thorold to victory.

The Steelhawks were unable to stop the Athletics from sending pucks towards the net, and Thorold eventually piled up 56 shots on goal.

Thorold additionally got points from Steven Dol, who also tallied one goal and one assist and JJ Martin, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Brad Jackson also scored for Thorold. More assists for Thorold came via Jay Hill, who had three and Tony Geldart and Joe Christiano, who contributed one each.

Hamilton's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Thorold power plays. The Steelhawks' offense rang up 48 shots on the Athletics' net.

Others who scored for Hamilton included Ryan Green and Kevin Rebelo, who scored one goal each. In addition, Hamilton received assists from Ben Walsh, who had two and Cody Wilson, Steve Guzzo, Frankie Grandits, Joel Petkoff, and Jason Bonsignore, who each chipped in one.

Colin Dunne recorded 44 saves for Thorold. The Athletics incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Ben Goss rejected 51 shots on goal for Hamilton. The Steelhawks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
