Dundas' comeback falls short, Whitby wins 7-5

The Dundas Real McCoys almost clawed their way back from a five-goal deficit, but the Whitby Dunlops managed to pull out a 7-5 win in the end.

Whitby led by five goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Dunlops' Kyle Ventura scored at 5:18 in the second period to put Whitby up 5-0.

The Dunlops got the win thanks to a great game by Darren Doherty, who had two goals and two assists. Doherty scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:54 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Whitby. Whitby had gotten the advantage when Dundas' Shawn Snider was sent off for tripping. Mike Pain picked up the assist. Doherty's next tally on the power play made the score 4-0 Whitby with 1:01 left in the first period. Pain assisted on the tally.

The Dunlops stifled the Real McCoys' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Whitby forced Dundas goalie Mike Mole to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Whitby additionally got points from Ventura, who also registered two goals and two assists and Brett McConnachie, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Whitby included Patrick Jobb and Connor Shingler, who scored one goal each. More assists for Whitby came via Jason Guy, Will Jones, Corey Tamblyn, and Ben Parker, who each chipped in one.

The Real McCoys kept the Dunlops' goalie busy throughout the game, and Guy made 44 saves on 49 shots.

Dundas was led by Chris Hulit, who racked up one goal and two assists. Hulit scored 14:30 into the third period to make the score 6-5 Whitby. Scott Stafford provided the assist. Dundas also got points from Matthew Bragg, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Dundas also got a goal from Brent Vandenberg as well. Other players who recorded assists for Dundas were Simon Mangos, Cam Watson, and Greg Stewart, who contributed one each.

Whitby incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Mike Mole made 29 saves for the Real McCoys on 35 shots. Dundas incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
