Donati nets hat trick, leads Stoney Creek to 8-5 win over Whitby

Justin Donati lifted the Stoney Creek Generals to an 8-5 victory with a hat trick against the Whitby Dunlops.

Donati notched his first tally 3:19 into the first period. He then added goals at 11:46 into the second and at 17:10 into the third.

Stoney Creek forced Dunlops' goalies to work without much rest, firing 52 shots and forcing 44 saves. Anthony Kimlin made 24 stops and Matthew Cadieux made 20. The Generals got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Stoney Creek additionally got points from Dylan Quaile, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Mike Ruberto, who also had one goal and two assists, Jarrett Konkle, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Nathan Pageau, who also registered one goal and one assist. Stoney Creek also got a goal from Brandon McMartin as well. Other players who recorded assists for Stoney Creek were Tyler Donati, who had two, Andrew Radjenovic, who had three, and Nikola Bibic, Sean Blanchard, Chris Knighton, and Justin Sawyer, who each chipped in one.

Whitby forced Stoney Creek goalie Daniel Svedin to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots. The Dunlops' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Whitby was helped by Jason Dale, who finished with one goal and two assists. Dale scored 16:52 into the third period to make the score 7-5 Stoney Creek. Ben Parker picked up the assist. Whitby also got points from Darren Doherty, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Brett McConnachie, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Whitby included Matthew Baxter and Greg Leyden, who each put in one.

Daniel Svedin made 41 saves for the Generals on 46 shots. Stoney Creek incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Dunlops incurred 42 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Whitby, Chris Gour and Matt Gray were ejected from the contest.
