Brantford wins tough contest against Whitby, 6-4

The game between the Brantford Blast and the Whitby Dunlops was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Brantford emerged with a 6-4 win.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Chris Rebernik's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Ryan McCarthy had a great game for the Blast, netting two goals. McCarthy scored at 6:15 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Whitby and again while 19:21 into the third to make the score 6-4 Brantford.

Brantford put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Whitby to score on any of its five power plays. The Dunlops were unable to stop the Blast from sending pucks towards the net, and Brantford eventually piled up 33 shots on goal.

Brantford additionally got points from Rebernik, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Mike Burgoyne, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Brantford also had goals scored by Derek Medeiros and Dustin Alcock, who scored one goal each. In addition, Brantford received assists from Dave Russell, Brandon Dietrich, Jeff Caister, and Shayne Salmon, who each chipped in one and Joel Prpic and Jamie Williams, who contributed two each.

Whitby forced the Blast goalie Brett Leggat to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

The Dunlops were helped by Kyle Musselman, who tallied one goal. Musselman scored 14:43 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Whitby. Darren Doherty picked up the assist. Others who scored for Whitby included Patrick Jobb, Kyle Ventura, and Brett McConnachie, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Adam Maccarone, Marcus Carroll, Greg Leyden, and Ben Parker, who each chipped in one.

Brett Leggat made 34 saves for Brantford on 38 shots. The Blast incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Anthony Kimlin rejected 27 shots on goal for Whitby. The Dunlops incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
