Medeiros' hat trick boosts Brantford over Hamilton, 8-5

A hat trick by Derek Medeiros was the highlight in Blast's 8-5 win against the Hamilton Steelhawks.

Medeiros notched his first tally 13:41 into the first period. He then added goals at 9:05 into the third and at 18:00 into the third.

The Brantford Blast managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Brantford finished below its season average of 13.0 penalty minutes per game. Hamilton was unable to stop the Blast from sending pucks towards the net, and Brantford eventually piled up 48 shots on goal. The Blast surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Brantford has scored at the pace of 4.6 goals per game during the current campaign.

Brantford also had goals scored by Cameron Sault, who had two and Chris Rebernik, Mark Taylor, and Connor Robinson, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Brantford were Mike Burgoyne, who had three, Mike Charbonneau, Jamie Wright, and Kevin Christmas, who each chipped in one, and Dave Russell, Jeff Caister, and Joel Prpic, who contributed two each.

The Steelhawks' offense rang up 34 shots on the Blast's net.

Hamilton was led by Frankie Grandits, who racked up two goals and two assists. Grandits scored the first of his two goals at 17:22 into the second period to make the score 5-4 Brantford. Jakub Sys provided the assist. Grandits' next tally made the score 7-5 Brantford with 7:25 left in the third period. Kevin Rebelo assisted on the tally. Hamilton also got points from Rebelo, who also registered one goal and one assist and Joel Petkoff, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Steve Guzzo also scored for Hamilton. More assists for Hamilton came via Cody Wilson, who had two and Gary Clarke, Kevin Jaczenko, and Dennis Maxwell, who each chipped in one.

Anthony Marshall made 29 saves for Brantford on 34 shots. The Blast registered two goals on two power play opportunities. The Steelhawks' Ben Goss stopped 40 shots out of the 48 that he faced. Hamilton incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
