Thorold falls to Stoney Creek in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Jarrett Konkle gave the Stoney Creek Generals a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Thorold Athletics when he scored 3:28 into the extra period.

Stoney Creek overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Generals fell behind 3-1 after a goal by Thorold's Fraser Smith at 52 seconds in the third period. Stoney Creek tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Nikola Bibic at 16:53 in the third period.

The Generals pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 20 penalty minutes.

Stoney Creek's offense rang up 38 shots on the Athletics' net.

Stoney Creek additionally got points from Tyler Donati, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Stoney Creek included Mike Ruberto and Chris Knighton, who scored one goal each. More assists for Stoney Creek came via Ryan Healy, Nathan Pageau, and Justin Donati, who contributed one each and Sean Blanchard and Andrew Radjenovic, who each chipped in two.

Thorold forced the Generals goalie Daniel Svedin to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots. The Athletics had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on nine chances.

Thorold was led by Steve Zmudcynski, who had one goal and one assist. Zmudcynski scored on the power play 11:09 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Thorold. The Athletics had gotten the advantage when Stoney Creek's Konkle was sent off for cross checking. JJ Martin picked up the assist. Thorold also had goals scored by Brad Jackson and Derek Nichols, who each put in one. In addition, Thorold received assists from Joe Christiano, who had one and Tony Geldart, who had two.

Daniel Svedin made 40 saves for the Generals on 44 shots. Stoney Creek registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Matt Sagrott rejected 33 shots on goal for Thorold. The Athletics incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
