Brantford uses shootout to best Whitby, 1-0 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Brantford Blast defeated the Whitby Dunlops in a shootout 1-0 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for 16 attempts between the teams.

Anthony Marshall spearheaded the defensive effort for Brantford, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 46 saves for the shutout. Marshall certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.88 entering the contest.

The Blast put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Whitby to score on any of its five power plays. Brantford did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Blast put an average of 4.6 pucks into the net per game. Brantford forced the Dunlops goalie Jason Guy to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

Whitby's offense operated below its season average. The Dunlops average 5.7 goals per game. Whitby's offense rang up 46 shots on the Blast's net.

Brantford incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Dunlops' Guy stopped 39 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Whitby incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
