Masucci leads Alliston to shutout victory over SchombergNew Tecumseth Rec Centre Sun, Jan 31, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
Mike Masucci made 25 saves to complete the shutout and led the Alliston Hornets to a 3-0 win against the Schomberg Cougars. Brady Martin had a great game for Alliston, netting two goals. Martin scored at 4:53 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alliston and again while on the power play 21 seconds into the third to make the score 3-0 Alliston. The Hornets forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 53 minutes in penalty time. Alliston surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. The Hornets stifled Schomberg's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Alliston could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Hornets put an average of 5.2 pucks into the net per game. Alliston kept the Cougars' goalie busy throughout the game, and Alex Traikos made 50 saves on 53 shots. Mackenzie Flewelling also scored for Alliston. In addition, Alliston received assists from Stephen Nosad, who had two and Mitch Livingston and Joe Cochrane, who each chipped in one. Schomberg's offense operated below its season average. The Cougars average 3.3 goals per game. Schomberg struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 76 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays. For the Hornets, Masucci was ejected from the game. The Cougars registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. Team's Jacob Kostopolous and Declan Lampe were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
