The Midland Flyers and the Caledon Golden Hawks skate to 6-6 (OT) tieNorth Simcoe SRC Fri, Jan 15, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
Behind two goals and two assists from Nicholas McNutt and one goal and two assists from Daniel Cafagna, Caledon drew with Midland 6-6 (OT). The Flyers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Golden Hawks to score on any of their 13 power plays. Midland surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Flyers average 3.6 goals per contest. Midland was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 46 penalty minutes. The Flyers were helped by Matt Schieck, who tallied two goals and one assist. Schieck scored the first of his two goals at 15:35 into the second period to make the score 6-3 Caledon. Francesco Corona assisted on the tally. Schieck's next tally made the score 6-4 Caledon with 2:52 left in the second period. Evan Buehler picked up the assist. Midland also got points from Buehler, who also had one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Midland included Tully Jackson, Corey DeRose, and Hayden Stewart, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Midland were Curtis Anderson, who had two and Jon Goldsworthy, Jake Walter, and Matt Hudgin, who each chipped in one. Caledon excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in 11 chances. The Golden Hawks bested their season scoring average. Caledon averages 3.7 goals per game. The Golden Hawks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 42 minutes in penalties during the game. Caledon additionally got points from Mathew Pyz, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Cafagna, who also registered one goal and two assists. Caledon also got a goal from Matt Magliozzi as well. More assists for Caledon came via Eric Becker and Ryan Mouser, who contributed one each. Jake Norton made 24 saves for Midland on 30 shots. For the Flyers, DeRose and Hudgin were ejected from the contest. Caledon's Tomo Mikulson stopped 20 shots out of the 26 that he faced.
