Orillia holds on for 6-5 win against Schomberg

The Schomberg Cougars tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Orillia Terriers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 6-5.

A goal by Trenton Micks put Orillia up 6-4 in the third period, but Schomberg pulled to within one on Carter LeRoux's tally 10:00 into the third period.

The Terriers bested their season scoring average. Orillia has scored at the pace of 2.6 goals per game during the current campaign. The Terriers were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 34 penalty minutes.

Orillia also had goals scored by Quinn Steele, Shane Carroll, and Mike Barroso, who scored one goal each. In addition, Orillia received assists from Corey Miller, who had two and Jason Binnie, Kyle Fischer, Jared Orr, Denny Benson, Brady Hubbard, Adam Arsenault, and Mathew White, who contributed one each.

The Cougars' offense rang up 51 shots on Orillia's net. Team could not crack the Terriers' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Schomberg also got points from JP Crescenzi, who also tallied one goal and three assists to lead the team in points and Joseph Mete, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Schomberg came via Derek Neilly, Declan Lampe, Brendan Spencer, and Justin Formenton, who each chipped in one.

Orillia's Gordie Weiss stopped 46 shots out of the 51 that he faced. The Terriers registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Schomberg took out Alex Traikos after he had made 10 saves and installed Vince Michelizzi in goal, where he finished with six saves and the loss. The Cougars incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
