Weiss leads Orillia to shutout victory over HuntsvilleWest Orillia Sports Complex Sat, Jan 02, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
Gordie Weiss was superb between the pipes for the Orillia Terriers, as he did not allow a goal in a 3-0 victory over the Huntsville Otters. Orillia was paced by Mike Barroso, who registered one goal and one assist. Barroso scored on the power play 12:57 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Orillia. The Terriers had gotten the advantage when Huntsville's Sam King was sent off for head contact. Taylor Fischer picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 20:00 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Orillia's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Huntsville power plays. Orillia also got points from Fischer, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Orillia received assists from Jason Binnie, who had two and Jarod Bourne and Corey Miller, who contributed one each. The Otters did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Huntsville averages 4.1 goals per game. The Otters' offense rang up 41 shots on the Terriers' net. Huntsville struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 27 penalty minutes for five opposing power plays. Orillia's Weiss stopped 41 shots out of the 41 that he faced. The Terriers ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For Orillia, Trenton Micks was ejected from the game. Connor Christanson rejected 21 shots on goal for the Otters. Huntsville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nathan Zantingh was ejected from the game.
