Early goals doom Stayner, falls to Huntsville, 7-3

The Huntsville Otters opened up a four-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 7-3 win over the Stayner Siskins.

Nathan Zantingh was all over the ice for Huntsville, as he had two goals in the win. Zantingh scored at 6:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville and again while 14:02 into the first to make the score 4-0 Huntsville.

The Otters racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 11 minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. Huntsville surpassed its season average of 28.0 penalty minutes per game. The Otters' offense rang up 31 shots on Stayner's net. Huntsville outdid its season average for goals scored. The Otters average 4.3 goals per game.

Others who scored for Huntsville included Andy Baker, who had three and Curtis Ballantyne and Myles York, who scored one goal each. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Kyle Burns, who had two, Jake McIntyre, who had three, and Josh Zantingh, Sam King, Dalton Mceachran, Dylan McEachran, and Cam Russell, who each chipped in one.

The Siskins forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 35 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 26.0 minutes per game Stayner had been spending in the box.

The Siskins were helped by Kyle Lafreniere, who racked up one goal. Lafreniere scored on the power play 18:07 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Huntsville. Stayner had gotten the advantage when Huntsville's Jared Stevens was sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. Lucas Jeffery picked up the assist. Stayner also got points from Jeffery, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Stayner came via Kort Weir and Jordan Taylor, who contributed one each.

Connor Christanson made 21 saves for the Otters on 24 shots. Huntsville registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. The Otters ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mceachran was ejected from the game. Sean Caulfield recorded 24 saves for the Siskins. Stayner registered three goals on nine power play opportunities. For the Siskins, Jackson Clarke was ejected from the game.
