Erin rolls over Huntsville, 7-0

The Erin Shamrocks had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-0 win over the Huntsville Otters.

Erin's penalty kill excelled, as the Shamrocks gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays.

Erin was led by James Watson-Bagg, who had one goal. Watson-Bagg scored on the power play 12:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Erin. The Shamrocks had gained a power play chance when Kyle Burns was whistled for cross checking. Mike Nicolucci picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:44 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Erin was often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and two majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game the Shamrocks had been spending in the box. Erin stifled Huntsville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Shamrocks' goal total was higher than their season average. Erin has scored at the pace of 3.2 goals per game during the current campaign.

Erin also got points from Nicolucci, who also tallied two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Erin also had goals scored by Jesse Gunn and Brad Ranson, who each put in two. In addition, Erin received assists from Brigg Jones, who had two and Keegan Martinec, Alec Littlejohn, Reiss Debrouwer, William Patry, Dawson Heyworth, and Liam Adamson, who contributed one each.

The Otters did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Huntsville puts an average of 3.9 pucks into the net per game. The Otters' offense were handcuffed by the Shamrocks' defensive play, and Huntsville managed only 13 shots on goal during the game. The Otters' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in three goals to Erin's power play unit. Huntsville was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time.

Tom Denstedt made 13 saves for the Shamrocks on 13 shots. For Erin, Mike Kri, Ranson, and Heyworth were ejected from the contest. The Otters' Jamie Gee stopped 21 shots out of the 28 that he faced. For Huntsville, Josh Zantingh was ejected from the game.
