Schomberg beats Erin 9-4 as Storm gets hat trick

A hat trick by Shadoe Storm was the highlight in Cougars' 9-4 win against the Erin Shamrocks.

Storm got on the scoresheet 7:33 into the second period. He then added goals at 6:10 into the third and at 9:51 into the third.

Erin trailed by one after the first period, but the Schomberg Cougars went into the second intermission with a 7-3 lead and never looked back.

Schomberg pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 31 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:06 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Cougars forced the Shamrocks' goalies to work without much rest, launching 47 shots and forcing 38 saves. Tom Denstedt made 15 stops and Mark Terry made 23. Schomberg found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Cougars average 3.7 goals per contest. Schomberg got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Schomberg additionally got points from Derek Neilly, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Kiefer McIntosh, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, Joseph Mete, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Justin Formenton, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Schomberg also had goals scored by Ryley Egerton and Brendan Spencer, who scored one goal each. In addition, Schomberg received assists from Carter LeRoux, JP Crescenzi, and Blake Culley, who contributed one each and Liam Spurgeon, Evan Woodhead, and Tanner Smith, who each chipped in two.

Erin racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 15 minors and one major for 45 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game the Shamrocks had been spending in the box.

Erin was helped by Dawson Heyworth, who had one goal. Heyworth scored 2:25 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Erin. Nick Molinaro picked up the assist. Erin also got points from Keegan Martinec, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Erin included Mike Nicolucci and Jesse Gunn, who each put in one. More assists for Erin came via Mike Kri, Reiss Debrouwer, William Patry, James Watson-Bagg, and Liam Adamson, who contributed one each.

The Cougars took out Vince Michelizzi after he had made two saves and installed Martin Lauzon in goal, where he finished with 19 saves and the win. Schomberg registered three goals on 13 power play opportunities. The Cougars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Declan Lampe was ejected from the game. The Shamrocks registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Erin, Connor Mortimer was ejected from the game.
