Wellesley outlasts Woodstock, 3-2Woodstock Community Center Fri, Jan 22, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wellesley Applejacks gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Woodstock Navy Vets. Wellesley gained the winning advantage on a goal by Cal Jefferies 18:36 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. The Applejacks got the win thanks to a great game by Jefferies, who had two goals and one assist. Jefferies scored the first of his two goals at 5:32 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Alex Uttley assisted on the tally. Jefferies' next tally made the score 3-2 Wellesley with 1:24 left in the third period. Wellesley had gotten the advantage when Woodstock's Ethan Hager was sent off for slashing. Nick Palmer picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:38 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Wellesley also got a goal from Nick Breault as well. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Shaun Pickering and Nick Mercier, who contributed one each. The Navy Vets were helped by Tyler Arsenault, who racked up one goal. Arsenault scored 1:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Woodstock. Justin Elms assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for Woodstock were Dan Haig, Dylan Wettlaufer, and Jake Schneider, who each chipped in one. Ryan Hergott made 25 saves for the Applejacks on 27 shots. Wellesley totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. The Applejacks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mark Lebold was ejected from the game. North Davies recorded 19 saves for Woodstock.
