Tavistock holds on for 6-4 win against Burford

The Burford Bulldogs tried to dig themselves out of a five-goal hole, but the Tavistock Braves held on for a 6-4 victory.

A goal by Mackenzie Sealy put Tavistock up 6-1 in the second period, but Burford pulled to within two on David Denardi's tally 19:31 into the third period.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:22 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Braves kept the Bulldogs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Black made 34 saves on 40 shots. Tavistock found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Braves average 3.4 goals per contest. Tavistock found itself short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays. The Braves' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Tavistock also got points from Kevan Hadad, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Tavistock also had goals scored by Josh Borys, who had two and Cody Bateman and Derek Hyde, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Tavistock were Jared Yantzi, who had two and Garrett Schultz, Tayler Trachsel, Angus Rowland, Ben Larder, Jacob Rooke, and Ocean Check, who contributed one each.

Burford forced Tavistock goalie Larder to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. The Bulldogs were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 24 penalty minutes.

Burford was led by Jesse Brooks, who finished with one goal and three assists. Brooks scored short handed 11:57 into the third period to make the score 6-2 Tavistock. The Bulldogs played down a man on Jensen DaSilva's checking from behind. Jesse Szabo picked up the assist. Burford additionally got points from Denardi, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Mitch Randell, who also registered one goal and one assist. Burford also got a goal from Tyler Hinde as well.

Ben Larder made 32 saves for the Braves on 35 shots. Tavistock registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For the Braves, Bateman and Maverick Petrie were ejected from the contest. Team's Daiken Salsman, DaSilva, Connor MacKay, and Alex Takacs were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
