New Hamburg downs Wellesley in overtime, 5-4 (OT)Wellesley Sun, Jan 17, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
Jerry Ennett gave the New Hamburg Firebirds a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Wellesley Applejacks when he scored 55 seconds into the extra period. Ennett was all over the ice for New Hamburg, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Ennett scored the first of his two goals at 19:54 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Chris Eckert picked up the assist. Ennett's next tally made the score 5-4 New Hamburg with 19:05 left in. Wellesley was unable to stop the Firebirds from sending pucks towards the net, and New Hamburg eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. New Hamburg also had goals scored by Quinten Haddock, David Jennings, and Andrew Boer, who scored one goal each. More assists for New Hamburg came via Brandon Quan, who had two and Tyler Kleine and Carter Tracey, who contributed one each. The Applejacks' offense rang up 31 shots on the Firebirds' net. Wellesley was led by Alex Uttley, who grabbed two goals. Uttley scored the first of his two goals short handed at 14:59 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wellesley. The Applejacks played down a man on Nick Palmer's goalie interference. Uttley's next tally short handed made the score 3-3 with 14:33 left in the third period. Brady Gerber provided the assist. Others who scored for Wellesley included Spencer Brick and Cal Jefferies, who each put in one. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Nick Mercier, who had two and Jake Wilkinson, Braidon Kerbs, and Matthew Lantz, who each chipped in one. Ryan Purcell made 27 saves for New Hamburg on 31 shots. The Firebirds incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Ryan Porter rejected 36 shots on goal for Wellesley. The Applejacks incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
