Ayr outlasts Wellesley, 4-3Wellesley Sat, Jan 16, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Ayr Centennials gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Wellesley Applejacks. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Cole Cummings secured the win for Ayr with a goal in the third period. The Centennials' offense rang up 40 shots on Wellesley's net. Ayr struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 42 penalty minutes for nine opposing power plays. The Centennials were led by Cash Seraphim, who tallied two goals. Seraphim scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:52 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Ayr had gotten the advantage when the Applejacks' Matthew Lantz was sent off for high sticking. Zachary Masterson provided the assist. Seraphim's next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 10:57 left in the first period. A hooking penalty on Lantz had put the Centennials on the power play. Masterson picked up the assist. Quinn Diamond also scored for Ayr. In addition, Ayr received assists from Mitch Klie, who had two and Mackenzie Kemp, Jake Whibbs, Connor MacLean, and John Nay, who contributed one each. Wellesley racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 15 minors and one major for 55 minutes in penalty time. The Applejacks had been averaging 28.0 minutes in penalties per game. Wellesley was helped by Nick Breault, who had two goals. Breault scored the first of his two goals at 6:30 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Wellesley. Cal Jefferies assisted on the tally. Breault's next tally made the score 3-2 Wellesley with 6:13 left in the first period. The Applejacks had taken the advantage when Ayr's Ben Roelofson got sent off for tripping. Nick Palmer picked up the assist. Wellesley additionally got points from Palmer, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. More assists for Wellesley came via Jackson Keller, Nick Mercier, and Justin Lebold, who each chipped in one. The Centennials' Jackson Swindells stopped 26 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Ayr registered three goals on 13 power play opportunities. Ryan Hergott made 36 saves for Wellesley on 40 shots. For the Applejacks, Brenden Goran, Nathan Schlupp, and Lantz were ejected from the contest.
