Wellesley beats Delhi 9-0 as Porter gains shutout

The Wellesley Applejacks used a sparkling performance by Ryan Porter to take down the Delhi Travellers, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Wellesley's 9-0 shutout victory.

The Applejacks' penalty kill excelled, as Wellesley gave up zero goals despite allowing 10 power plays.

The Applejacks forced Delhi's goaltenders to work without much rest, racking up 46 shots and forcing 37 saves. Kodie Oude made 27 stops and Rene Kloepfer made 10. Wellesley stifled the Travellers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Applejacks outdid their season average for goals scored. Wellesley averages 3.6 goals per game. The Applejacks' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Wellesley's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Applejacks finished with 40 penalty minutes.

Wellesley was helped by Nick Breault, who racked up one goal and one assist. Breault scored 7:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley. Nick Mercier assisted on the tally. Wellesley additionally got points from Joe Heath, who also tallied two goals and one assist, Cal Jefferies, who also had one goal and one assist, and Alex Uttley, who also registered two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Wellesley also got a goal from Spencer Brick as well. More assists for Wellesley came via Jake Wilkinson, Mark Lebold, Brady Gerber, Matthew Lantz, and Nick Palmer, who each chipped in one and Scott Martin and Justin Lebold, who contributed two each.

Delhi excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Travellers did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Delhi averages 2.3 goals per game.

The Applejacks' Porter stopped 27 shots out of the 27 that he faced. For Wellesley, Greg Huber was ejected from the game. The Travellers incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
