The New Hamburg Firebirds scored three goals in the second period to pull away from the Tavistock Braves and clinch an 8-1 win. Curtis Smith had a great game for New Hamburg, netting two goals. Smith found the back of the net 18:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 New Hamburg and again while 2:27 into the second to make the score 2-0 New Hamburg. The Firebirds' penalty kill excelled, as New Hamburg gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. The Firebirds racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. New Hamburg surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. The Firebirds forced Braves' goaltenders to work between the pipes, taking 58 shots and forcing 50 saves. Ben Larder made 33 stops and Riley Collins made 17. New Hamburg surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Firebirds average 4.7 goals per contest. New Hamburg was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on 15 chances. New Hamburg also got points from Tyler Randerson, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Others who scored for New Hamburg included Walker Davison, who had two and Ethan Adair, Tyler Kleine, and Quinten Haddock, who scored one goal each. Tavistock was often in penalty trouble, totaling 13 minors and one major for 61 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 31.0 minutes per game the Braves had been spending in the box. Tavistock did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Braves put an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. Tavistock was led by Ocean Check, who scored the team's only goal. Check scored on the power play 5:33 into the third period to make the score 5-1 New Hamburg. The Braves had gotten the advantage when the Firebirds' Brandon Quan was sent off for slashing. Angus Rowland picked up the assist. Tanner Topham took the win and made 23 saves before being replaced by Ryan Purcell who made five saves. For New Hamburg, Tanner Topham was ejected from the game. Tavistock ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jordy Schneider was ejected from the game.
