Woodstock uses early goal to top Burford, 3-1

Dan Haig gave the Woodstock Navy Vets the lead in the first period, and the Burford Bulldogs was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1.

Haig provided Woodstock with the game-winning tally when he scored 17:39 into the first period. Cam Leslie provided the assist.

Burford was stymied by the Navy Vets' netminder North Davies, who stopped 40 shots during the victory. Davies certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.92 entering the contest.

Woodstock was led by Haig, who had one goal and one assist.

The Navy Vets kept the Bulldogs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Black made 42 saves on 45 shots.

Woodstock also got points from Chris Thompson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Woodstock also got a goal from Jack Taylor as well. Other players who recorded assists for Woodstock were Justin Elms and Dylan Wettlaufer, who contributed one each.

Burford did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Bulldogs put an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. Burford forced Woodstock goalie Davies to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

The Bulldogs were led by Jesse Szabo, who scored the team's only goal. Szabo scored 2:25 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brendyn Martyniuk assisted on the tally.

The Navy Vets incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. For Woodstock, Garrett Whetham was ejected from the game. Burford incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Bulldogs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Daiken Salsman was ejected from the game.
