Paris falls to Woodstock in overtime, 7-6 (OT)Brant Sports Complex Sat, Dec 19, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Woodstock Navy Vets' Braden Hutchison scored 3:06 into overtime to beat the Paris Mounties, 7-6 (OT). Hutchison was all over the ice for Woodstock, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Hutchison scored the first of his two goals short handed at 6:41 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Woodstock. The Navy Vets were on a disadvantage when Ryan MacDonald went off the ice for elbowing. Hutchison's next tally short handed made the score 7-6 Woodstock with 16:54 left in. Austin Richardson picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:52 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts. Woodstock forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and two majors for 22 minutes in penalty time. The Navy Vets surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Woodstock forced Paris' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, racking up 34 shots and forcing 27 saves. Justin Fauz (AP) made 17 stops and Zach Shomphe made 10. The Navy Vets surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Woodstock averages 2.8 goals per contest. Woodstock also got points from Richardson, who also finished with two goals and one assist and Tyler Arsenault, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Woodstock included Chris Nauts and Gray Sinden, who scored one goal each. In addition, Woodstock received assists from Jake Schneider, who had three and Chris Thompson, Dan Haig, Dylan Wettlaufer, and Chris Jensen, who contributed one each. The Mounties forced the Navy Vets goalie North Davies to work between the pipes, taking 55 shots. Paris was led by Brodie Smith, who had three goals. Paris additionally got points from Austin Sine, who also registered one goal and one assist. Paris also had goals scored by Mikael Ruffini and Tysen Willemsen, who each put in one. More assists for Paris came via Keegan Alvestad, Griffin Heitshu, Vincent Robbins, and Cole Corriveau, who each chipped in one and Brady Wheelans, Brett Wilson, and Ryan Stephenson, who contributed two each. North Davies made 49 saves for Woodstock on 55 shots. The Navy Vets registered two goals on four power play opportunities. For Woodstock, Kolby Francis and Jensen were ejected from the contest. The Mounties totaled 38 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 2-for-6 on the power play. Team's Shomphe, Heitshu, and Garrett Kirby were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
