Wellesley outlasts Paris, 6-4Wellesley Sun, Dec 13, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wellesley Applejacks gutted out a close 6-4 win against the Paris Mounties. Wellesley gained the winning advantage on a goal by Nick Mercier 18:32 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer. Mercier had a great game for the Applejacks, netting two goals. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:38 into the third period. Three fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Wellesley kept Paris' goalie busy throughout the game, and Hayden Padalino made 28 saves on 34 shots. The Applejacks outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Wellesley averages 3.3 goals per contest. The Applejacks' penalty kill unit could not stop the Mounties' power play, which converted on two of three opportunities. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals. Wellesley also got points from Jackson Keller, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Sean McEwan, who also had two goals and one assist, and Nicholas Breault, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Cal Jefferies, who had two and Jake Wilkinson and Nathan Schlupp, who contributed one each. Paris racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and two majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. The Mounties surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. Paris forced Wellesley goalie Ryan Porter to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. The Mounties were helped by Mikael Ruffini, who registered one goal. Ruffini scored 14:30 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Vincent Robbins picked up the assist. Paris additionally got points from Griffin Heitshu, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Paris also had goals scored by Austin Sine and Brett Wilson, who scored one goal each. In addition, Paris received assists from Keegan Alvestad, Richard Brooks, Cole Corriveau, and Patrick Snell, who each chipped in one. Ryan Porter made 27 saves for the Applejacks on 31 shots. Wellesley totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 3-for-8 on the power play. For the Applejacks, Garrett Schultz was ejected from the game. Team's Jacob Norcott, Joshua Schafer, and Austin Kovrig were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
