Huge game by Richardson boosts Woodstock over Burford, 6-1Burford Community Centre Sat, Dec 12, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Austin Richardson was all over the ice for the Woodstock Navy Vets, as he tallied one goal and two assists in Woodstock's 6-1 win over the Burford Bulldogs. Richardson scored 3:05 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Woodstock. Dylan Wettlaufer picked up the assist. Richardson dished an assist on Tyler Arsenault's goal that made the score 1-0 Woodstock at 1:02 into the first period. He added another helper on Jake Schneider's goal that made the score 3-1 Woodstock at 5:03 into the second period.Burford was stymied by the Navy Vets' netminder North Davies, who stopped 43 shots during the victory. Davies managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.67 prior to the game. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:22 into the second period. Six fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts. Woodstock's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and two majors for 22 minutes in penalty time. The Navy Vets surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Woodstock excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Bulldogs were unable to stop the Navy Vets from sending pucks towards the net, and Woodstock eventually piled up 49 shots on goal. The Navy Vets surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Woodstock has scored at the pace of 2.6 goals per game during the current campaign. Woodstock also got points from Dan Haig, who also had one goal and one assist and Garrett Whetham, who also registered one goal and one assist. Woodstock also got a goal from Braden Hutchison as well. Other players who recorded assists for Woodstock were Cam Leslie, who had one. Burford racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The Bulldogs had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. Burford was held below its usual level of production. The Bulldogs average 3.2 goals per game. Burford's offense rang up 44 shots on the Navy Vets' net. The Bulldogs were led by Hayden Hellyer, who scored the team's only goal. Hellyer scored 2:45 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Daiken Salsman assisted on the tally. Woodstock registered two goals on five power play opportunities. For the Navy Vets, Austin Whetham and Max Racicot were ejected from the contest. Jack Stockdale made 43 saves for Burford on 49 shots. Team's Matt Zilke, Blaise Burtnick, and Scott Penwarden were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
