Wellesley outlasts Burford, 4-3Burford Community Centre Sat, Dec 05, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Wellesley Applejacks and the Burford Bulldogs were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Wellesley made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-3. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Jackson Keller at 8:35 of the second period. Spencer Brick was all over the ice for the Applejacks, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Brick found the back of the net 9:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley and again while 17:12 into the first to make the score 2-0 Wellesley. Wellesley stifled Burford's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Applejacks' offense rang up 33 shots on the Bulldogs' net. Wellesley could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 29 minutes in penalties during the game. The Applejacks' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals. Wellesley also got points from Keller, who also had one goal and one assist. Wellesley also got a goal from Alex Uttley as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Brady Gerber, who had three and Braidon Kerbs, Cal Jefferies, Sean McEwan, and Nick Mercier, who each chipped in one. Burford was helped by Mitch Randell, who racked up one goal. Randell scored 5:48 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Jesse Brooks picked up the assist. Others who scored for Burford included Hayden Hellyer and Scott Penwarden, who scored one goal each. In addition, Burford received assists from Matt Zilke and Kurtis Christo, who contributed one each. Ryan Porter made 24 saves for Wellesley on 27 shots. The Applejacks registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For Wellesley, Justin Lebold was ejected from the game. Michael Black recorded 29 saves for the Bulldogs. Burford totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-3 on the power play. The Bulldogs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Blaise Burtnick was ejected from the game.
