Paris beats Norwich 7-0 as Shomphe gains shutout

Zach Shomphe recorded a shutout against the Norwich Merchants as the Paris Mounties picked up a 7-0 win.

Paris got the win with help from a great game by Ryan Stephenson, who had one goal and two assists. Stephenson scored 6:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Paris. Vincent Robbins picked up the assist.

The Mounties forced Norwich's netminders to work in net, racking up 37 shots and forcing 30 saves. Andrew Hawkins made eight stops and Andrew Lefebvre made 22. Paris put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Merchants to score on any of their nine power plays. The Mounties outdid their season average for goals scored. Paris averages 4.6 goals per game. The Mounties were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 40 penalty minutes.

Paris also got points from Jacob Norcott, who also registered one goal and one assist, Richard Brooks, who also racked up two goals and one assist, and Austin Kovrig, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Paris included Brady Wheelans and Brodie Smith, who scored one goal each. More assists for Paris came via Griffin Heitshu, who had three and Austin Sine, Brett Wilson, and Patrick Snell, who contributed one each.

Norwich racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Merchants surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. Norwich could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Merchants average 3.1 goals per game. Paris was unable to stop Norwich from sending pucks towards the net, and the Merchants eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

The Mounties' Shomphe stopped 36 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Paris registered four goals on eight power play opportunities. For Norwich, Matt Dipaolo and Ray Munro were ejected from the contest.
