Randerson's hat trick boosts New Hamburg over Tavistock, 8-1

A hat trick by Tyler Randerson was the highlight in Firebirds' 8-1 win against the Tavistock Braves.

Randerson's first goal came 19:58 into the first period. He then added goals at 4:52 into the third and at 8:25 into the third.

Tavistock's 13 penalties came back to haunt it, as the Braves let up five goals while on the penalty kill.

The New Hamburg Firebirds forced Tavistock's goalies to work all game long, launching 37 shots and forcing 29 saves. Riley Collins made 22 stops and Ben Larder made seven. New Hamburg stifled the Braves' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Firebirds surpassed their usual scoring output this season. New Hamburg averages 4.9 goals per game. The Firebirds struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 40 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays.

New Hamburg additionally got points from Tyler Kleine, who also registered two goals and three assists and Chris Eckert, who also finished with one goal and two assists. New Hamburg also had goals scored by Ben Playfair and Brodie Muckler, who scored one goal each. More assists for New Hamburg came via Mario Alyas and Jerry Ennett, who contributed one each and Ethan Adair and David Jennings, who each chipped in two.

Tavistock's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 12 minors and one major for 59 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 30.0 minutes per game the Braves had been spending in the box. Tavistock did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Braves average 3.3 goals per game.

Tavistock was led by Tayler Trachsel, who scored the team's only goal. Trachsel scored short handed 9:59 into the second period to make the score 3-1 New Hamburg. The Braves were on a disadvantage when Angus Rowland went off the ice for kneeing. Shaun Pickering picked up the assist.

Ryan Purcell made 21 saves for New Hamburg on 22 shots. Tavistock ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Rowland was ejected from the game.
