Gillis nets hat trick, leads Norwich to 7-4 win over WoodstockNorwich Community Center Sun, Nov 29, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Jordan Gillis lifted the Norwich Merchants to a 7-4 victory with a hat trick against the Woodstock Navy Vets. Gillis' first goal came 9:18 into the first period. He then added goals at 1:52 into the third and at 10:56 into the third.Norwich's penalty kill excelled, as the Merchants gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays. Norwich forced Navy Vets' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 39 shots and forcing 32 saves. North Davies made 27 stops and Keith McAllister AP made five. The Merchants' goal total was higher than their season average. Norwich averages 3.2 goals per game. The Merchants could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game. Norwich also got points from Zack Morrison, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Darcey Butler also scored for Norwich. In addition, Norwich received assists from Matt Dipaolo, Brandon Velda, Adam Harris, and Ray Munro, who contributed one each and Derek Slaght, Michael Young, and Noah Burns, who each chipped in two. Woodstock stifled Norwich's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Navy Vets were led by Dylan Wettlaufer, who tallied one goal and two assists. Wettlaufer scored 15:54 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Norwich. Jeremy Racicot assisted on the tally. Woodstock additionally got points from Tyler Arsenault, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Woodstock included Gray Sinden and Max Racicot, who each put in one. More assists for Woodstock came via Chris Nauts, Cam Leslie, and Jake Schneider, who contributed one each. Andrew Hawkins rejected 22 shots on goal for the Merchants. Norwich registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. For the Merchants, Jamie Kelly was ejected from the game. Woodstock ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. The Navy Vets ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Chris Jensen was ejected from the game.
