Delhi hangs on, beats Woodstock 2-1

The Delhi Travellers took the lead against the Woodstock Navy Vets in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-1 victory.

Delhi took over the lead for good with a goal by Brandon Szymesko at 9:54 in the first period. Jared Ebdon picked up the assist.

Woodstock was stymied by the Travellers' netminder Mike Harrison, who stopped 30 shots during the victory. Harrison certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 5.12 entering the contest.

Delhi was paced by Mitchell Graham, who tallied one goal. Graham scored 1:02 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Delhi. Rhett Roney assisted on the tally.

The Travellers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Navy Vets to score on any of their three power plays.

In addition, Delhi received assists from Joe Shaw, who had one.

Woodstock managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for 12 minutes in penalty time. The Navy Vets wound up below its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Woodstock forced Delhi goalie Harrison to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

The Navy Vets were led by Gray Sinden, who scored the team's only goal. Sinden scored 9:10 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Delhi. Chris Nauts provided the assist.

The Travellers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors and had no power play opportunities. For Delhi, Colin Vandaele was ejected from the game. Woodstock's starting goalie, North Davies, made nine saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Jackson Swindells, who stopped 14 shots.
