Wellesley survives Delhi comeback, wins 5-4

The Wellesley Applejacks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Delhi Travellers on the way to a 5-4 win.

Wellesley made the score 5-3 on a goal by Alex Uttley at 11:24 in the third period, and Delhi got as close as 5-4 when Rhett Roney scored 19:22 into the third period.

Brenden Goran had two goals and one assist to lead the Applejacks. Goran scored the first of his two goals at 13:01 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Delhi. Nick Mercier assisted on the tally. Goran's next tally made the score 3-3 with 17:27 left in the third period. Mark Lebold picked up the assist.

Wellesley's offense rang up 39 shots on the Travellers' net. The Applejacks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game.

Wellesley additionally got points from Uttley, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Tyson Bender, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Sean McEwan also scored for Wellesley. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Cal Jefferies and Justin Lebold, who each chipped in one.

Delhi was led by Jordan Betzold, who finished with one goal and two assists. Betzold scored on the power play 8:29 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Delhi. The Travellers had taken the advantage when Wellesley's Braidon Kerbs got sent off for high sticking. Greg Tucci assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Delhi included Mitch Smythe and Dylan Wales, who each put in one. In addition, Delhi received assists from Jared Ebdon, Nathan Stackhouse, and Kelsey Van Ymeren, who contributed one each.

The Applejacks took out Noah Leis after he had made nine saves and installed Ryan Porter in goal, where he finished with 17 saves and the win. Wellesley registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Kodie Oude recorded 34 saves for Delhi. The Travellers incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
