New Hamburg wins tough contest against Woodstock, 4-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the New Hamburg Firebirds escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Woodstock Navy Vets.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Mario Alyas's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

New Hamburg was led by Alyas, who tallied one goal and one assist. Alyas scored 17:42 into the third period to make the score 4-3 New Hamburg. Tyler Randerson assisted on the tally.

The Firebirds excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

New Hamburg also got points from Randerson, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for New Hamburg included Jerry Ennett and Carter Tracey, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for New Hamburg were Andrew Boer, who had two and Tyler Kleine, Chris Eckert, and Walker Davison, who each chipped in one.

Woodstock forced New Hamburg goalie Ryan Purcell to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

The Navy Vets were helped by Chris Jensen, who finished with one goal. Jensen scored 18:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Woodstock. Max Klunder picked up the assist. Woodstock also had goals scored by Chris Thompson and Brody Hunt AP, who scored one goal each. In addition, Woodstock received assists from Cam Leslie and Austin Whetham, who contributed one each.

Purcell recorded 30 saves for the Firebirds. New Hamburg incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Jackson Swindells rejected 26 shots on goal for Woodstock. The Navy Vets incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
