Tavistock rolls over Burford, 5-2

The Tavistock Braves were firing on all cylinders against the Burford Bulldogs, and when the final buzzer sounded Braves emerged with a 5-2 win.

Tavistock got the win on the strength of a great game by Shaun Pickering, who had one goal and two assists. Pickering scored on the power play 4:43 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Tavistock. A spearing penalty on Mitch Randell had put the Braves on the power play. Cody Bateman provided the assist.

Tavistock's penalty kill excelled, as the Braves gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Tavistock was effective with a man advantage, and put in two goals while on the power play. The Braves were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 30 penalty minutes. The defensemen of Tavistock were also effective in Burford's zone, and came away with two goals.

Tavistock also got points from Jared Yantzi, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Tavistock included Mackenzie Sealy, Braedon Hancock, and Kieran Van Boekel, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Tavistock were Angus Rowland and Jacob Rooke, who each chipped in one.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The Bulldogs could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Burford was helped by Nolan Ferris, who tallied one goal. Ferris scored on the power play 16:49 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Tavistock. The Bulldogs had taken the advantage when the Braves' Kevan Hadad got sent off for roughing. Jesse Szabo picked up the assist. Burford additionally got points from Szabo, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Burford received assists from Tyler Hinde, who had one.

Riley Collins recorded 25 saves for Tavistock. Burford's Jack Stockdale stopped 19 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Bulldogs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Cadwell was ejected from the game.
