Paris downs Burford in overtime, 7-6 (OT)Brant Sports Complex Sat, Oct 31, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Brady Wheelans gave the Paris Mounties a 7-6 (OT) victory over the Burford Bulldogs when he scored 2:19 into the extra period. Paris nearly gave up a three-score lead. The Mounties made it 6-3 on a goal by Brodie Smith at 7:42 in the second period. Burford pulled to within 6-5 on a goal by Jesse Brooks at 4:03 in the third period. Wheelans had a great game for Paris, netting two goals. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:28 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Mounties forced the Bulldogs' goaltenders to work all game long, totaling 55 shots and forcing 48 saves. Jack Stockdale made 32 stops and Riley Edwards made 16. Paris struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Burford to score three power play goals on four chances. The Mounties got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game. Paris also got points from Austin Sine, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Griffin Heitshu, who also had one goal and two assists, and Nick Mercier, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Paris also got a goal from Connor Purbrick as well. More assists for Paris came via Tyler Arsenault and Mikael Ruffini, who each chipped in one and Mitchell Harvey and Richard Brooks, who contributed two each. The Bulldogs bested their season scoring average. Burford has scored at the pace of 3.1 goals per game during the current campaign. The Bulldogs were helped by Mitch Randell, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Randell scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:08 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Paris. Burford earned a power play opportunity when Purbrick was put in the box for holding. Connor MacKay picked up the assist. Randell's next tally on the power play made the score 5-3 Paris with 16:03 left in the second period. The Bulldogs had gained a power play chance when Brooks was whistled for checking from behind. Jensen DaSilva assisted on the tally. Burford additionally got points from Brooks, who also had two goals and one assist. Burford also had goals scored by Daiken Salsman and Ryan McLeod, who scored one goal each. In addition, Burford received assists from Scott Penwarden, who had one. Zach Shomphe recorded 21 saves for Paris. The Mounties totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Team's Brooks and Garrett Kirby were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Burford ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Bulldogs, Nolan Ferris was ejected from the game.
