Tavistock outlasts Wellesley, 3-2

The Tavistock Braves and the Wellesley Applejacks were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Tavistock made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Tyson Zehr secured the win for the Braves with a goal in the third period.

Wellesley's power play was ineffective against Tavistock's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Braves were sparked by Zehr, who had one goal. Zehr scored 3:01 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Tavistock. Braedon Hancock provided the assist.

Tavistock's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Wellesley power plays. The Braves' offense rang up 36 shots on the Applejacks' net. Tavistock was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 60 penalty minutes.

Tavistock also got points from Josh Borys, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Tavistock also got a goal from Jamie Shoemaker as well. In addition, Tavistock received assists from Jared Yantzi, Andrew Bogdon, and Angus Rowland, who each chipped in one.

Wellesley forced the Braves goalie Ben Larder to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. The Applejacks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Wellesley was helped by Alex Uttley, who registered one goal. Uttley scored 17:34 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Brady Gerber assisted on the tally. Brenden Goran also scored for Wellesley. More assists for Wellesley came via Joe Heath, who had one.

Ben Larder made 29 saves for Tavistock on 31 shots. The Braves registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For Tavistock, Mackenzie Sealy and Shaun Pickering were ejected from the contest. The Applejacks' Noah Leis stopped 33 shots out of the 36 that he faced.
