Woodstock outlasts Norwich, 4-2

The Woodstock Navy Vets and the Norwich Merchants were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Woodstock made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

The Navy Vets gained the winning advantage on a goal by Justin Elms 15:58 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer.

Elms had two goals to lead Woodstock to victory.

The Navy Vets kept Norwich's goalie busy throughout the game, and Andrew Lefebvre made 45 saves on 49 shots.

Woodstock also had goals scored by Dan Haig and Dylan Wettlaufer, who each put in one. In addition, Woodstock received assists from Jake Schneider, who had two and Austin Richardson, Cam Leslie, Chris Thompson, and Jacob Brown, who contributed one each.

The Merchants were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Norwich had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. Woodstock was unable to stop the Merchants from sending pucks towards the net, and Norwich eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. The Merchants' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Norwich was helped by Troy Lamoure, who had one goal. Lamoure scored on the power play 4:22 into the second period to make the score 1-1. The Merchants earned a power play opportunity when Braden Hutchison was put in the box for slashing. Jordan Gillis assisted on the tally. Norwich also got a goal from Riley Monture as well. More assists for Norwich came via Matt Dipaolo, Brandon Velda, and Adam Harris, who each chipped in one.

The Navy Vets' Jackson Swindells stopped 38 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Woodstock incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Norwich registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For the Merchants, Dalton Alford was ejected from the game.
