Pickering leads Tavistock over Burford, 5-2

The Tavistock Braves' Shaun Pickering had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 5-2 win over the Burford Bulldogs.

Pickering found the back of the net 8:13 into the first period to make the score 2-2 and again while 17:24 into the first to make the score 3-2 Tavistock.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 14:27 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Tavistock forced Burford goalie Riley Edwards to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

Tavistock additionally got points from Jordan Ritsma, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Tavistock included Jake Wiffen and Jamie Shoemaker, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Tavistock were Jared Yantzi, Mackenzie Sealy, Kevan Hadad, Derek Hyde, Josh Borys, and Maverick Petrie, who contributed one each.

The Bulldogs forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Burford had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Bulldogs' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Tavistock power plays.

Burford was led by Mitch Randell, who finished with one goal and one assist. Randell scored on the power play 6:59 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Burford. The Bulldogs had gained a power play chance when Angus Rowland was whistled for tripping. Ryan McLeod assisted on the tally. Jesse Szabo also scored for Burford. In addition, Burford received assists from Owen Hinch, who had one.

Ben Larder rejected 26 shots on goal for the Braves. Tavistock ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. The Braves ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Braedon Hancock was ejected from the game. Burford's Edwards stopped 38 shots out of the 43 that he faced. The Bulldogs registered two goals on five power play opportunities. For Burford, Blaise Burtnick was ejected from the game.
